Today was just a semi-casual day..didn't really feel like worrying too much about what to wear so I just happened to grab this particular dress and threw on this amazing cardigan that is perfect even in the summer as it has all these glorious little cut outs. It's also such a light material that whatever you pair it with, it would actually make it look a lot more comfy and less dressy.

FASHION FOCUS: THE COLD SHOULDER
n. Informal. Deliberate coldness or disregard; a slight or a snub: "She received the cold shoulder from the other club members"

This past Spring/ Summer season we were introduced to the ever growing popularity of the "cold shoulder." Whether it'd be on tops or dresses, it is surely to make a statement and expose what I claim to be one of the sexiest parts of a woman's body.....the shoulders.
With no particular pun intended, the "cold shoulder" trend has got nothing to do with disregarding people or being "cold" to others for that matter. The name simply derives from the simple fact that the shoulders are exposed through the cut out of the garment, which then makes perfect sense because when one part of the body is exposed and not covered, of course it tends to be "colder" than the rest of the body parts.
In this outfit, I am wearing this flowy sheer polka dot cold shoulder top that also features a peter pan collar. I paired this top with a simple yet classic dark wash denim with gray oxford flats and a subtle pop of accessory though my leather fringe bib necklace. It is a simple outfit that basically speaks for itself! It's not only casual but it's also loads of comfy!

FASHION FOCUS: THE ART OF COMPLEMENTING
Many of us are scared to mix two bold colors together because often times we think it's either too risky or too tacky. Whatever the case may be, these reasons explain why most of us tend to shy away from mixing two together. Now, we have heard of the term "color blocking" because as we all know, it has been one of the hottest trends these past few seasons already. Well, this popular trend actually got it's head start from what I believe, Yves Saint Laurent's "Mondrian" dress, which featured the three primary colors (red, yellow and blue) as well as the non-color which was white. It was called color blocking for the same reason that more than one color was used and not only just any colors were used, but complementing colors were used.
In today's outfit, I chose the complimentary color combination of blue and orange. Yeah, sure! it's definitely a head turner and if you're trying to keep a low profile, this is definitely something you might want to stay away from, but since I'm the type to take risks and not care what people think and let's say, all of you ladies are too, then this outfit will work for you.

Now, some of you might be a little confused or just curious and might ask yourselves, how would I know if the colors compliment each other? Well, here's a little cheat sheet for all of you ladies. -- "Complementary colors are two chromatic colors that when mixed together will produce a neutral color, which might be gray, white or even black." Long story short, complementary colors are basically two colors across from each other from the color wheel. Just like this picture below.
In example, in my outfit, I am wearing a really bright orange top, paired with a cobalt blue skirt. And, if you check back up in the chart, you will notice that the colors blue and orange are right across from each other, which means, these two colors are indeed complementary colors. And, when done right, it could look amazingly chic as a bright ensemble.

FASHION FOCUS: MIXED PRINTS
Mixing prints and patterns as well as different textures has now been remade to be popular. However, the "trend" hasn't always been on it's peak mainly because if it isn't done right, the person tends to look a little if not a whole lot of tacky. The trick with this crazy trend is to find pieces that are both subtle and bold all at once. For example, in today's look, I am wearing a black and gold stripe crop top along with a floral skirt but if you notice, both my skirt and my top share a common color, which is black. Which then somehow pulls the two opposing patterns together. Also, in this look, I decided to wear a slouch red blazer to give the outfit some kind of structure but at the same time keeping it wearable and casual.

FASHION FOCUS: BRINGING BACKPACKS BACK
I don't know about you guys but I have not worn a backpack since middle school-ish days and ever since then, I have always worn a handbag or satchel/ book bag to school. But lately, I've been loving the look of these fashionable backpacks. Not only is it incredibly spacious but it's amazing in the style department as well. It's different because of the style and fabrics that were used! It's not your typical Jansport hence, it could be worn by anyone who wants to be more fashionable without looking ridiculous or better yet, like a 4th grader.

FASHION FOCUS: DENIM ON DENIM
This trend might have been on the fashion faux pas list a few years back, but hey! look where it's at now. In today's look, I incorporated two shades of denim. One that is a lighter wash used as a vest and  the other considerably darker wash denim used on my bottom half. This then creates depth to the entire look without looking like a patchwork of denim fabric.
